In New Britain, Conneticut, we turned an empty warehouse into a year-round farm, growing fresh produce, building skills, and creating revenue that strengthens people and community. This is the story of that farm.

New Britain, Connecticut, is located in the heart of the North-Eastern United States. 20 minutes from the downtown Hartford (the state capitol of Connecticut), New Britain, Connecticut was once the home of industry, manufacturing, and growth synonymous with that area.

The farm was custom built to fit in an old Stanley tools warehouse.

Idea.
The original idea was born and CW connected with Just Vertical.
Scoping
Just Vertical visited CW in Connecticut and scoped the project based on their unique needs.
Approval.
The CW team approved the bespoke farm design presented by Just Vertical.
Assembly.
Just Vertical began the shipped and assembled their farming equipment on-site in New Britain.
Commission.
The farm was began operating at full capacity.

Employment
The New Britain farm focuses on providing employment to folks with disabilities.
Training.
Through vocational training, the farm aims to empower its employees with vertical indoor farming skills.
Revenue.
Proceeds from the farm are injected back into CW Resources to advance more of their non-for-profit programs.
Scalability.
Expansion is built into the farm, designed to deliver more opportunities for folks through employment and growth.
Community.
The farm is part of an effort to engage local residents in the New Britain community and teach them about their food.
Local food.
Fresh produce is grown to be distributed locally through suppliers based in and around Connecticut.
Empowerment.
Through training and employment, we aim to create sustainable livelihoods for locals and refugees alike.
